A URM-25D would be good. I have one for sale for $125 plus shipping.

There is on on sale on Ebay:

That is an audio-frequency signal generator. What you really need if working on radios is an RF signal generator (some of which can also output audio frequencies).

Here is a URL to a SOLID-STATE RF generator that could be used to align radios:

http://www.kitsusa.net/phpstore/html/Elenco-SG-9000-Wide-Band-100kHz-to-450MHz-RF-Signal-Generator-1550.html

There is also a model SG-9500 that has a built-in digital frequency counter.

There are a number of similar units from BK precision, Leader and other companies.

There are also many vintage SOLID-STATE RF generators that could be used to align radios. These would have to be found in flea-markets, ham-fests, ebay, etc. because they are no longer manufactured. Here is a example of one on ebay:

Per Alan's suggestion I won the signal generator.

It did not come with a manual. Is there a users manual around?
Thanks and regards,

I don't recommend ELENCO brand-- they are low quality in many respects for the most part. Look for an older RCA and avoid the vacuum tube stuff - drifts and too long of a warm-up time for stability. If you are not in a hurry, you can find decent solid state RF sig-gens out there of good quality for reasonable prices. Consider buying gently used equip.

You can get the manual for the vacuum version (WR-50B) of the the generator via the following link.

http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/rca/wr50b/

The vacuum tube version looks exactly the same and has the same controls and ranges as the solid-state version (WR-50C), but consumes less power. Operation should be the same.
