Does anyone have a schematic for this REM Cathode Recovery Unit and CRT Tester. I've included a couple of pictures to help. If not; does anyone know what's inside the "black hockey puck" located underneath center and it's purpose?

I doubt if you will find a schematic for this, as far as I know they were never released to the public. They are a very good unit.

Yep. Schematics were never released. The reason that most of the circuitry is potted in that 'hockey puck' is to keep it secret.

I see that these things sell for as little as $20 on eBay. This makes me half tempted to buy one and melt out the tar from the 'hockey puck' just to see what is in there. When companies try to keep things like that secret, it always makes me want to figure them out anyway! Tar is pretty easy to remove so it shouldn't be too hard to get into this thing.

As above, manuals or schematics were never supplied. Someone posts this question here about once a year.

These were great and I still have several that I used to use all the time.

No idea regarding the hockey puck other than it is probably a toroid and maybe one or two other parts.

I just bought one of these. I will post the schematic in a few weeks when I have a chance to work it out.

Most likely after you melt out all the tar you will find whatever parts in there with all their marking ground off.

Know a good dentist? Have them X-Ray the hockey puck.

I had a NDT lab X-ray a potted nest of components found in a jeweler lathe - the scan was good enough to identify the leads to an obvious three-legged transistor or thyristor, two axial parts, and (gasp) a pig-tail fuse. Jumping the fuse externally with a 1A slow-blow restored operation. I was out 45 bucks, but had a working lathe. A local jeweler/pawn store bought it, the scans, and my quasi-schematic.

Thanks to all for your responses. I have asked this question about available schematics before but it was about a different REM Unit (the single meter version). The REM units seem to be simple emission checkers with no G2 bias adjustments. They seem capable of checking and restoring early electrostatic deflection picture tubes. I hope I didn't just drive their price up!
