I'm checking the volume pot on this, but I'm not used to stuff with multiple taps. In addition to the usual three terminals, this has a 250K tap on each side. The chassis is upside-down on my bench, with the control shafts facing away from me---I will refer to the top three terminals as top left, top middle and top right. I'm checking the taps, and I have one side of my meter connected to them....but do I connect the other end of my meter to the left or right of the three top terminals?

I'm having a lot of problems with the bass on this chassis being extremely distorted, even at low volume. One of the taps goes to the bass pot, and if I'm measuring things correctly, things aren't looking good :(

Hi William,

A volume control tap is just that... a tap.
It's a connection to a point along the resistive element.

For example...
Given a 1 Megohm control with a tap at 250 kilohms.
From the tap, you will measure 250K to one end terminal and 750K to the other end.

Thanks, Leigh....using those connection points, it looks like the volume pot is ok.

Very good, William.

It's pretty unusual for taps to come detached.
Of course it's not impossible, but definitely unusual.
