Recently purchased a Magnavox turntable at estate sale, noticed something noisy in bottom of case, also motor was locked up. I removed turntable from bottom case and found loose part in bottom. (see attached pictures) I have no idea where this part belongs.

I have looked at the parts diagram located at Antique Radio: Post subject: Magnavox Micromatic - W801 - Tonearm Problem/Need Manual, and still not able to find this part location.

Will appreciate any help you will furnish also, I understand I should have used turnbine oil on freeing up the motor instead of oil, where to obtain this oil.
Thanks for your help...

That my friend is an optional short spindle that originally came with the turntable and could be used in place of the long spindle. The reason I know this is because I still have my W800 model changer purchased in 1971. I can't recall if you pull straight up on the long spindle or have to turn it slightly then pull, but it will come out... then you drop the short one in the hole. I still have the short spindle that came with mine somewhere but never used it. On my turntable there is even a long indentation to the right of the tonearm to store the long spindle after it is removed.

Why did they offer this? Apparently a long spindle changer didn't project high end at the time so Magnavox provided this option.

Thanks. dacsman, for the reply and solution to my problem. Now that you mention it, I notice the slot on right side of tone arm for long spindle storage.

The unit appears in good shape, but I believe I may have messed up the timing mechanism , by turning the gears by hand, as the tone arm does not set down and reject at the correct time. I will look through the W801 service manual, on line, to hopefully resolve this.

Thanks again for your help.

You're welcome. Yes, that changers gears will pop out of sync if you manually move the platter backwards too far. But as long as you didn't break the plastic gear you should be able to repair it and get it back in sync. Study the service manual thoroughly before you start and take photos for reference if you need to disassemble.
