I finally completed the tone arm restoration on the BOL changer with a solar cell that was given to me by one of the forum members and I am happy to report that the sound is great. I was able to find a tone arm with a good exciter bulb, needle (jewel), and mirror. After removing the old cell and soldering the replacement round photo cell from a bill reading unit, it plays excellent. Fortunately the needle assembly did not need a rebuild. I have attached a picture to show my completed changer playing a 1941 andrews sisters 78 . There is definitely less background noise and the frequency range seems better than a standard crystal cartridge which I had been using prior.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Wow. That is really cool. 8) You wouldn't have a link to a higher resolution picture or want to make a video??
