I just received my dad's 1903 Thomas A. Edison Model H 4 Minute Wax Cylinder Reproducer!
I notice there are two separate pieces of metal, not sure if these are broken off .... One of the pieces of metal has stamped, "Model H 4 Minute," the other is a small black piece of metal with a large hole in the middle, and a long screw on one end, and looks like one end of this piece of metal has broken off of something.
Note sure if I'm allowed to post pictures ... I have pictures if I can post them ....
I don't have any wax cylinders, but the motor does work! I turned the crank, and found the switch which started the motor turning the cylinder.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with identifying these two loose metal pieces, and any suggestions where I could buy several wax cylinders that have music which would still play with good quality.

Post a picture or provide a link to see them. I think the picture limits are 800x800 pixels and 256 Meg. Something like that.

I just found out that my machine is a Reproducer. Can I still play wax cylinders on a Reproducer?

The machine is called a phonograph. The model H is the reproducer, and, originally came out in 1908. A picture of the reproducer, and, of th machine would help alot. Bill Cahill

vja4Him wrote: How do I upload an image? Take one or more pictures. Open them with Paint shop, and resize them down to about 60%. You can also crop them. In your reply screen at the bottom, where it says, "upload attachment", click on "choose file". Once the pic is chosen, click, "add the file", and then click, "submit". Of course you can add several. If it's still too big, simply go back into paint, and resize the original down to what you think will be just small enough. I'm looking forward to see, whatchagot!

Here is an image of my Edison Reproducer:
My image is still not uploading .... I reduced it to only 184k, so it's not too big. Any ideas what the problem is ... ???

The image is only 184k which is smaller than allowed (200k), so the image should upload just fine. I don't have any problems uploading my images on other forums.

When you make a reply, arrow down to "upload attachment" then select browse to find the photo on your computer. Once selected, you have to click "add the file" for it to be added to your post. Allow enough time to be sure the file has been added. Then hit "submit" to post your reply, including the attached photo. It's that simple. If the photo is too big, it will show it as a link that can be clicked on to bring it up.

There's also another way; go to a file hosting site (I use http://imageshack.us/). Upload your pictures, then highlight the forum code for each and click copy. When you post a reply here, click the "img" box in the editor bar, just above the posting field, and paste that link inside the [im g] [/im g] for each picture.

My Edison Wax Cylinder Reproducer: http://s135.beta.photobucket.com/user/v ... a.jpg.htmlFor some strange reason, I'm not able to upload images to this forum .... Even Photobucket is not working correctly. In order to view the image of my Reproducer, you will need to first click on the right arrow, then click on the left arrow to view to image. This has never happened before. I don't have any problems uploading images to many other forums .... Wonder what might be the problem ....

The phonograph you show is an Edison Triumph model B, which came out in 1905. It was converted to two speed, but, is put together wrong. Parts are in backwards, and, feed screw is badly dammaged. The reproducer is broken. The hinge block that holds the weight on has been broken. It will need proffessional repars by an expert. The machine obviously also needs alot of work. At the least, the feed screw will need replacement, and, the parts will have to be put back in properly. Somebody put them in the wrong way. Why'd you get Photobucket beta? You don't need that, unless your computer is beta. I have the regular Photo bucket for windows. Beta may not work on this forum. Bill Cahill

Other information. When this machine came out from the factory in 1905 it was originallly a 2 min. machine with a model C reproducer. It was converted some time in 1908, or, later, to play the new Edison "Amberol" cylinders. They wer 4 min. duration. The H reproducer is for the 4 min. cylinders. 2 min. 100 grooves per inch. 4 min. 200 grooves per inch. The pulleys on top have planetary gears inside them. When your switch the lever from 2 to 4 it slows the feed screw down so it is running half the speed. These will also play the 4 min. Blue Amberol, and, 4 min. indestructable cylinders. Bill Cahill
