There was a pretty good description of how to deal with surface blemishes in plastics (usually scratches, but swirls counts) over here: http://www.rx8club.com/archive/index.php/t-71424.html

Curtis! Awesome link! I did not follow all steps exactly but got a pretty good idea of what I needed to do. I couldn't afford to buy all the different kinds of sand paper so I gently sanded it with my dremel and then wet sanded it with a fine grain and it looks soooo much better! There are one or 2 deeper spots and a little nick on the edge, I don't want to sand to much but once I polish and buff I am sure it will look a lot better! Thanks so much!

wet/dry is the finishers preference. very finely takes it down quickly. any surface. polish with 600 grit. works best wet. an assortment of grit silicon carbide wet/dry sandpaper

Hey guys....sorry no updates as of yet. At a stand still. I am suffering through a Fibromyalgia flair up and I am unable to get the motor board sanded down any more than I have because I hurt so bad. Using too much elbow grease makes me hurt more.

I promise I will update as soon as I am up and running again. I can't do much of anything else, it is recapped and all the parts are clean and ready to be put back together but, I need the motor board sanded, primed and painted before I can put it back together.

I just read through your post and sounds like you have a bit of a rusty motor board.

If you have not started working on that mb yet...don't mess with Naval Jelly or any of that other snake oil crap out on the market, they really don't work and are more time and mess then it is worth.

I had a couple nice guys help me out when I was first into these things and I will pass the goodwill on. If you want it done right strip down your motor board to bare bones and ship it to me in the mail. I will toss it in the blasting cabinet and have that down to sparkling clean steel in about 35 seconds. If you are really nice to me I might even fill your rust pits, sand it down and shoot primer and even the paint it for ya, you pay for the materials and shipping I will do the rest for free.

File comment: Original paint motor board on the left and repaint on the right. This is as close a match as you are ever going to get straight out of a can.

In case you are worried about my skills...here is some of my real paint work.

wOw...BB! That is one shiiiny bus! Love how you caught the reflection of the kid just waiting to get his dirty, sticky little boy hands all over that beautiful paint job! lol.

So, I think I will definitely take you up on your very kind and generous offer....I got nothing to lose but a motor board.
I stripped the paint off of the MB and I think I got 99% of it off, then I started sanding it to get it down to bare metal. I tried all kinds of sand paper and dremel attachments and it really just kinda looks like a blotchy copper and metal mess now.

PM me your snail mail address and I will send it out to you tomorrow or Friday. I work across the street from a post office.

Thanks so much!
