Hi, I have an AP-1 back in for service that has a bad 12V DC motor. If anyone out there knows of someone who services vintage DC motors that used brushes and points to maintain an accurate speed, I need help. And please no suggestions to buy another to strip. I have gone to $500 on Ebay to try and find one and the last one I thought might be ok, even though it was totally rusted and looked like it rested in the bottom of a swamp for the last 50 years, went for over $700. These things are scarce as hens teeth. Someone who knows old DC motors like the ones used in 8 track players and has the facilities to overhaul them would be great. The motor runs, but the points that control the speed are extremely noisey and the spikes get into the audio output. Sounds like someone singing through a fan...

Thanks, I checked out the links. Kinda cool thing for some destroyed 45 players, of which there are many. How do I get this guys website or info I can contact him? As you can guess, I don't do you-tube other than go look at links someone points me to. If that motor can push a reject system it has enough umph to do the same for the AP-1. I just need to get the motor and his looks right. Leland

Go to one of "fortyfiveplayer"s youtube videos. Click on his username (a blue hyperlink below the video window) and this will take you to his home page. At the top on the right, under "About fortyfiveplayers channel" is a line with "by fortyfiveplayer" with a dropdown arrow. Click that arrow and the option to send a message appears. You will have to set up a YouTube account at this point if you have not already done so. Please let us know if this motor works out for your purpose. pabilo21

I'll let you know for sure. First though, I am going out to my storage shed and check the 40 or so turntables and see if any of them have a variable speed dc motor in them. I quite honestly never gave it a thought because usually when I work on something for someone, I make it as original as possible, such as this AP-1 is in a show car. It was totally stripped, photographed, and replated, reassembled, etc. It looks like brand new and did a few car shows in a 55 Chevy Belair convertable. Then it went nuts with the singing thru a fan sound. Took a while to take the motor apart, build new brushes, fabricate some points from new chain saw parts, and still couldn't get the spikes out. This is a great idea and looks the part too.

OK!! I went to youtube and looked at the 45 battery conversion and contacted Chris and bought just the Motor. I took Pix of the conversion but don't find any instructions on how to share pix. It is a great little motor with plenty of torque to push through changer stress. Using the instructions for mounting I converted the mounting plate on the RCA AP-1 and it hangs in there spot on even when dropping records.

Thanks for the follow up!
You can post images <256 K by attaching the image as a file. This is one of the options below the window where you write your post ("filename">"choose file">"add the file"). I don't know how to attach anything bigger than 256K. Maybe someone else can tell us if that is possible.
