This was at auction in Studio City, CA.

The photo makes the cabinet's top look like a different color, but it's not. The cabinet looks great, except for a few small scratches.

It has the 16-E changer, and two 12 inch speakers.

Overall the condition is very good.
It has a low serial number (18,427), so no pot metal in the changer.
It was sold with the radio "working."

What's that white button (or lamp) below the tuner for? I didn't have one of those on my Capehart. Looks like a later add on.

That's the eject button for the record changer.

Oh, ok! Mine had a different (less expensive) changer in it.

Are you sure? I was there early well before 3:00pm) with a bright flashlight, and saw a large disc with a track in which a pin rides and various linkages which appear to be pot metal. If it is not pot metal, does anyone have any idea what it is?

No, I'm not an expert, so I'm not sure, and it was just an observation based on what I saw, and the information in the Baumbach book, which I had with me at the auction house. I stopped to look at the machine after lunch, snapped some pictures and left.
The Capehart Service Notes (page 21, paragraph 26) make reference to "the new series (beginning at 20,000) are equipped with cast iron bases, magazines, and record trays."

I had close up pictures stored on my phone of the cams and gears from my 406E, and they appeared to be the same.

Again, my opinion, the changer appeared to have been serviced, as the grease in the large cam was not hardened like a rock like on my machine at here at home.
The 406E was frozen when I got it, and I'm still removing old grease trapped along the changer shafts where it passes through the portions of the mechanism that hold them in place. The changer is out of the cabinet, up on a wooden rig so i can get to it from all sides. At least it cycles now, powered by a small motor that I can switch on/off, so as not to do damage if it jams, and the clutch does not disengage.

I wonder who got it? My wife though she recognized a guy who only shows up at the SCARS auction, no other events.
