Hi guys,
This is unknown turf to me. My Grandpa left us two of these Victrola record players and a ton of these Victrola record "books". They both work. I tried them out a while ago, then I was super naive about all of this stuff. I guess there aren't any capacitors or tubes that need to be changed, but does any preventative maintenance have to be done for these to be "daily drivers". Although they won't be used daily of course, just wondering that way I know it's safe to use them when I want.

Also, does anyone have a clue as to the exact age of each of them, and possible value? Both are in really nice condition and work, for whatever it's worth. And complete. Not looking to sell them, just curious. I've meaning to ask but haven't found time to get some photos of them until now. Pictures are crumby, but they're quick snapshots so you can get the idea.

Any information, ads, sales price, etc. is welcome. I just would like to know more about them.

Your mahogany VV-IX type C was made early in 1913 as evidenced by the serial number. The Type C was shipped between Feb. 7,1913 and Feb. 16, 1914. They shipped a total of 569,394 of the VV-IX in all types.
As for your oak VV-VI, if you supply a photo of the data plate, I can give you more info on a date of manufacture. A total of 689,416 VV-VIs were shipped from 1911 and 1926.
Prices for both these machines vary, location and condition being part of the equation. They both appear to be in nice condition and more than likely both sound boxes should be rebuilt if they haven't been already. If you notice any "thumping" noise as the motor winds down, this is indicative of hardening of the old grease, causing the coils of the spring to stick together and come apart suddenly as the spring unwinds. Removing the springs from the barrels, clean the old grease off of them and inside the barrels and put in new grease is the best way to assure smooth operation. This is a messy job and can be dangerous due to the power of the coiled spring inside the barrel. There are those that will tell you it's no big deal. but I add this caveat anyway; spring removal can be hazardous!!

Or you can also look up the serial number of your VV-VI here for the year of manufacture.
According to the Victor Victrola site, approximately 711,000 of this model were made.
