Hello I am working on recapping a philco 42-1008 radio/ BOL record player. I replaced the main electrolytics which had been replaced sometime in the past. I then started into the paper capacitors and there is an extra cap that was hidden underneath a plate that is a 10mfd at 25 working volts. This capacitor is not in the schematic, but looks original with the philco name. What would this cap be for? Also all the other electrolytics are rated at 450 volts, why is this one at 25 volts?

Where is it connected to on the schematic? Perhaps it is across a cathode resistor to improve gain?

Looking at the schematic closer this morning, the 10 mfd, 25v cap is where a .2 uf paper cap should be, part 56. the negative side feeds into the ground, on the 7C6 tube, and the 2200 ohm resistor that runs parallel to it, part 57 is a 3300 ohm resistor.

This radio has pretty high voltage running through it, and it seems crazy that there is a cap that can only handle 25 volts attached to the ground.

The max cathode current is less than 1mA, therefore the max cathode voltage is only a couple of volts.

Thank you about the volts. I replaced it with a 25uf 25v cap that I had.

Just found more documentation online that the changes were published but not changed on the schematic.
