I have an RCA Victor 45 RPM player (circa 1955). It isn't playing with a steady speed / right speed. Am I correct to think it's probably a cleaning and lubrication issue?
The cartridge is on its way to Quebec for rebuilding. I thought I'd try to address the speed issue if I could do so without the cartridge.
If not clean / lube - what possible causes should I look for? And what is the suggested oil or lubricant?
THANKS
------------------
Tom
"The 21st Century is a nice place to visit - but I sure wouldn't want to live there."
Tom,
If I could suggest a couple more things in addition to Bill's excellent suggestions.
The center spindle should also be cleaned/oiled.
If you take apart the idler wheel assembly--make an idiot diagram first. Have had a couple recently that had been put back together incorrectly.
Search here for info on resurfacing your idler wheel.
Wayne
------------------
