For discographies and many other fine books on phonographs and records, look up Mainspring Press and Alan Kounigsberg. The "sonoraman" link is excellent if you like Edison, but......

Per request, I am adding this link to this "sticky" topic for anyone interested in original owners manuals for many Victrolas, Edisons, and many other name brand Phonographs... be sure to scroll down the whole page to view all of the manuals available.

Paul, super! Thanks so much! Have downloaded and printed a very nice manual for my Columbia Grafanola, for free! This is the true spirit of collecting.

You're very welcome, glad it was useful to you. I kind of thought that it was a gem of a link when I found it.

Most crank phonograph collectors belong to michigan antique phonograph society or a sub chapter across the us. There are lots of shows and sells scheduled across the us each year as well, the next one i think is in orlando the end of this month. also for repairs i cant do i use great lakes antique phonograph repair laso for parts too. all these can be found quick on google.

For help in dating many 78 disc records and to see discographies of many labels from the turn of the century through the '50s, go here:

Here's another great site. It has a comprehensive list of Australian & New Zealand record labels, discographies, and some interesting info on mechanical copyright stamps found on records from around the world.

Here is a HUGE list of idler wheel codes (and belts) for different turntables and other things. Pretty much the complete list for Garrards, but lots of other changers, as well some of the funky forgotten early Japanese makes. If you know the code, you can pretty often find the wheel hiding in plain sight as it were for a lot less than searching by the make. This can save you serious money on ebay. I paid less than $10 for a NOS idler wheel that changes hands regularly between $50-100 by figuring out the EV code. Good luck.

A good board started in January of this year.

The replacement for the Sonoraman board listed above. The Proboards version of this one was completely wiped out by a hacker at the end of last year.

I ordered the book "THE COMPLEAT TALKING MACHINE" from Amazon.com and got it in 3 days. It is on sale for $19.77 + tax. It is one of the best books I have seen. Much info and documentation with pictures that really help in rebuilding.

Thank you guys for the lead.

Great book. Anyone with a wind-up phonograph should have a copy.

This is one of the best resources on the net IMO, for anyone interested in USA made 78s.
The fellow that runs it also has a facebook group where you can ask questions, share labels & information, and even make requests about what you'd like to see included in the future, or updated etc.
Talk about dedication!

And speaking of the best, heres a link to a wind-up phono forum which is the best & busiest Im aware of.

As Wayne wrote years ago when he started this thread,

http://www.proaxis.com/~settlet/record/links.html.

The best overall phono related directory, updated regularly.
