No need to hunt for a tapemeasure.. use while seated..
A self adhesive tapemeasure on the leading edge of your workbench.
see the picture ( Ignore the mess :o )
I picked this up in the hardware store for $6. Very handy..

An old worn-out restractable tape measure can also sacrafice a length of itself
as well for the same purpose or even a wooden yard-stick from your favorite hardware store.

The fishing gear shop tape measures are usually marked in "short inches" to enhance the abilities of the angler when showing the photos back in the watering hole!
