I am getting a Blaupunkt Riviera 2643 from a seller on Kijiji. From the pictures it looks in very good shape from the outside. Of course, I have to recap and align it. From what I have read there were many Riviera models made so if any one has a schematic I could probably work with it even if it isn't the exact model. I am getting it on Thursday and will post some photos if anyone wants to see. It looks like a very large tabletop with multiple speakers.

Congratulations for your lovely purchase. Did you pay $600 for it? I too saw it on Kijiji but didn't even bother to contact the seller because of the asking price.

If you let me know the tube line up I might be able to help you. It is a 3D model.

I too have a Blaupunkt 2633 which is FM Stereo and 3D for other Bands.

Thanks Mukerjea: Wow! These radios are nice but 600 bucks is an indication that someone is out of touch with reality. I got mine for a lot less. The tube lineup has a couple of duplicates. They are: ECC85, ECH81, EF89, EF89, EM84, EABC80, ECC82, EL95, EL95. I love German radios and this one will be fun restoring. Thanks for any help you can give. John

Thanks Alan! My apologies for the poor quality of the photos. I used a phone camera. I will be getting a real camera today and will post some photos that will do justice to this remarkable radio. You may be able to tell that it is in very good condition cosmetically. The glasslike piano finish is virtually unflawed. There was a good layer of dust on the chassis . One mistake on my part. I thought this radio was a Model 2643 but in reality it is a 2540. They look very similar and they have the same tube lineup. Thanks to Mukerjea for providing a 2643 schematic . I 'm hoping it will be all I need for recapping and any alignment. The radio does not appear to have been worked on. All the tubes look original (Telefunken). Nothing has been changed. The guy I bought it from inherited it from his uncle who owned a TV-radio repair shop in 50's into the late 70's. This is the first Blaupunkt I have seen. There seem to be quite a few electrolytics in comparison to the Grundig I have. I'll try to get some closeups of the components on the chassis . I havent seen capacitors quite like these.

One question. In the last photo you can see a wire with a connector on it . The wire leads into the back and connects to the speaker terminals of the main speaker. Does anyone know if this is original or perhaps something added by the radio owner. My guess is that it isn't original.

That wire is not original. It has been added to attach additional speaker to the set. You can just remove that wire.

I wasnt kidding when I said the finish was mirrorlike. It had to have been treated very well in 50+ years its been around. After I am finished with it , I expect it to last at least another 50. Now ,the work begins.

These are Piano finish. German radios had very sturdy finishing on them. Unless these are abused badly, these always look nice like new.

Why do you want to align it? I have bought dozens of related models at flea markets and dump heaps and other than replacing leaky wax capacitors and rectifiers and electrolytics, I have never aligned a single one of them and they all sound great. Over 30 years ago I worked in a large big-city shop which got about 100 of these European sets in per year, and I can't recall our ever touching the alignment on any of them.

The RF and IF stages are rather flimsy in these sets and unless someone has been into it already, I would leave it alone.

I have noticed a tendency on these forums for advice that an alignment should always be done, and I think that's bad advice for any radio, expecially for a beginner, unless a good reason has been given first. You'll see many a topic from an exasperated person who has aligned on an image, snapped a core deep inside a coil at an out-of-tune location, broken the Litz wire off the coil form when it spun inside the can, aligned the IF off frequency because his generator was off calibration, picked the wrong oscillator peak, and on and on.

I think the members of this forum who are retired bench professionals will back me up that unless there's an obvious good reason to get into the alignment, better to leave it alone.
