I recently picked up a "VICTOR COMPANY OF JAPAN"; MODEL TH-2770; SERIAL 3914 and am looking for a schematic, service manual, photofact or anything to help with repair.

I noticed that the picture I attached shows 2 coils on the AM ferrite antenna......my radio only has one coil and it appears that the ferrite rod was repaired at some time so the AM antenna may be the problem??
When listening to shortwave, I got reasonable reception using an 100' external long wire antenna clipped to the telescopic antenna. The built in telescopic antenna didn't seem to work very well, even on strong signals, maybe there is an issue there also?

I have attached a couple of pictures to help with identification of the radio and the link to the Radio Museum where the specifications can be found.

Radio Museum link.....

Any suggested info sources would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much!
Bob

I have this model but sadly, no schematic. Like yours, mine has only one coil on the ferrite bar but it has an additional coil in the empty hole shown in the radiomuseum.org picture. This is the antenna coil for the shortwave band which is coupled to the whip antenna. Perhaps they found that the lower frequencies of the shortwave band benefitted with the use of the ferrite bar. My radio, which is completely unrestored, seems fairly sensitive on both the AM and SW bands using only the built-in antennas. Because of it's consturction, it appears to be one of the earliest multiband sets from Japan.

Very cool Dave!!! Your radio looks great and even better.......it works!
Thanks for the information. I'll post a picture or two once I get it presentable and hopefully operational. My bakelite handle has a few cracks but is solid and sound. The grill emblem is also missing but otherwise a good original piece. For $10 it will offer some education and a quest!

I can't speak to your specific set, but I have quite a few earlier coat pocket sized Transistor AM/SW radios, and even in the daytime, using 1.5 - 3 feet of their built in whip antenna's, they get numerous short wave signals.

You can open them in Paint Shop and re-size (I find about 70% or so usually gets them down to forum requirements), or you can go to a file hosting site (I use Imageshack), host it, then C/P it's code here.

I eventually fixed my radio so it worked great......had to track down a couple of original transistors (out of a Sony TV). I also found another radio....now I have two......but they are different. One a JVC Victor Model TH-277 (my original one) and a JVC Nivico Model TH-2770 SZ. Physically they are identical other than the nameplates and one uses screws to afix the dial plate and one has a Hi/Lo tone switch in the back. The AM antennas are a little different and there is a coil added for shortwave on the SZ. I'd like to see your pictures if you can resize them.....always learning something!!
