Published in late 1922 or early 1923, this Radio Atlas features advertising on it's cover for two local (Fort Smith Arkansas) members of the media. Note in particular at the bottom of the page is reference to WGAR Radio in Fort Smith.

WGAR was the second radio broadcasting venture here and the first to attain anything approaching commercial success or secure a sizable listening audience. First Licensed on June 30th of 1922, WGAR broadcast on 833 kilocycles and was the property of the Southwest American Newspaper of Fort Smith.

Perhaps one of my most favorite advertising pieces is this small, tri-fold mailout from the GraDerGood Company in Denver, advertising
the Eight-In-Line Superhet. Fortunately, this was tucked down inside my Eight-In-Line superhet when I purchased the receiver.

Image

Opened, the little pamphlet contains a fair amount of useful information for the prospective purchaser:

Though they may not qualify as advertising, some of my favorite pieces are a couple of late 20s Service manuals for Columbia and
Continental radio manufacturers.

This service manual from Columbia for the "Screen Grid 8" receivers is a thing of beauty. High quality stock, great clear printing, lots
of photographs and drawings, and enough genuinely useful information to tackle the toughest repair job"

I am very proud of my service manual for the Continental "Sky Raider" sets, having obtained it from a engineer that worked for the
Co. in Fort Wayne Indiana.

This service book is equally impressive in it's construction, materials, photographs & illustrations, and additionally includes photos
and some service information for some of the company's previous "Slagle" line of receivers. I aquired this to go with my Continental
RP-40 "Star Raider" console.

And a look at the signature of Ben Thompson, Slagle/Continental Draftsman/Engineer, the previous owner
of this wonderful piece.

This is the front and back cover of a book I bought from a collector several years ago who was dispersing his collection of radios and radio-related literature. It is advertising from the “broadcast” end of radio rather than the “receiving” (manufacturing) end. It is a big book—12 ½” x 9 ½” x 1.” In it are many many ads for individual stations, networks, and advertising agencies in existence in 1937. It contains a complete listing of radio stations in existence by frequencies, by calls, by cities, and by states in the United States, and their owners . Just a few of the other interesting things in this book: presidents and officers of the NAB (Eugene McDonald was the first president of NAB from 1923-1925); bibliography of literature pertaining to broadcasting; FCC rules; “official” conversion table of frequencies to meters (and vice versa); average sunset times; directory of Central American stations, directory of European stations; advertisers on all the networks; network advertising rates; newspapers owning and controlling stations---and a nice index to find everything printed in the book.

One page (out of 392) is the map below of the CBS radio network. I thought it is interesting to see the different boundaries in effect for the time zones back then. All in all a fabulous reference book of broadcasting in the mid-1930s.

These aren't really advertisimg items but I have always had a problem turning them down.
The Marconi one has some significance as does the Radio Vision. I have a couple more significant ones I may put on later...

These shares of the Maclite Battery and Radio Corporation were purchased by two ladies in a neighboring town in 1925. I have a lot of paper from this short lived company that came from their estate.. The company formerly in Boston closed in 1930. They made only two models both regenerative that were pretty much obslolete when they came on the market. Everything I know about the company can be perused here. I have the Model "B" and looking for the matching amp if there ever was one

Never found much about this. It's a mirror and a little hard to photograph.

Rickey:
Those are neat and probably made in the 60's, 70's, or 80's. Mine was a flea market find. About the only piece I have that is in our immediate living area and well deserved so..

These are the last stock certificates I am putting on. I imagine you guys are tired of them.
James Millen was a well known mechanical engineer and officer with the National Company.
These are from his own company, owned by him and signed by him as he was the company president.
This is the check by which he joined AWA. I don't recall ever seeing him there. however.
I'll get back on the subject of this thread next week!

Its not for radios but it for TVs, its a sylvania banner. Thanks to Radiopup for it. The banner is almost 8 feet tall.It was in rough shape and has holes in it. Here it is hanging up.

Image

I had a plastic surround from a old TV that was long gone due to moisture. I had it for 25+ years and saved it. It is from a crosley TV but it is perfect for it. I made a shadow box out of the plastic surround and placed the Sylvanina inside to protect it. I really like it and how it turned out. Anyway its a good holder for the banner. I have collected old radio stuff since the early 80s and I wish I had asked the old TV shop owners for advertising. Oh well we live and learn, I am looking for some now to make up for lost time. Anyway here is the banner in its box.
