I have noticed that the manufacturer of grill cloth has gone out of business. AES and Grillcloth.com have some, but some designs are no longer available, and it seems they cannot get more.

are there any other sources?

Nope! :( About the only thing I can suggest is to try the classifieds here on the forum or try Epay and hope someone has a piece of the one you need.

What ever happened to the places like I think it was Radio Daze and others who were supposed to get it reproduced again? Bill, Lennys Dad

IMO big retailers don't want to get into the reproduction of radio parts.

Some day fabric stores will be the only place and those that have cloth at their repair station will keep it in a vault.

As they say, talk is cheap -- unfortunately. I think we'll need someone like John O. who is really interested in running a grille cloth business, if we want a return to the good old days of six months ago. :(

Wonder what the minimum amount of fabric he had to order for each pattern.

That's true, and the mills that can crank out our type of cloth are not as common as they once were. That's what happened to John, his supplier closed so John decided it was easier to retire than find a new source. That combined with the fact that no one is getting rich off this makes it a part-time labor of love.

Someone was looking at a source down south, starting off with some Zenith cloth and then branching out, but even that requires an initial outlay of cash. Not really sure where that project stands at this point. Radio Daze was looking into some places, but I suspect costs might be prohibitive. Then a member here was thinking of asking around the L.A. garment district, but I haven't heard about that for a while either.

I suspect someone will eventually come out with new cloth, but I have no clue when that might happen. We're in the same situation before Michael Katz and John started selling cloth. Hit the fabric shops, use generic cloth when possible, and preserve/patch that original cloth whenever possible. Eventually when someone figures out a way to make a profit we might see reproduction cloth again.

Some of you have inquired to me about my mention of Philadelphia University as a possible 'source'. It will be a long time before I get an answer from them, as it is a huge undertaking. All the supplies and equipment are already at their fingertips. It is just a question of demand, time and orchestration. The textile manufacturing department has taken a 'hit' since the school gained all of its other majors.

part of the problem I encountered when trying to find reproduction wire, and sleeving was you had to find a company would sell you a couple thousand feet of product. generally speaking the small guy is willing to help you out. It's amazing that someone can not be found to mfg, see on the design shows people getting custom rugs made.

Of course one has to have a good sum of cash to get all the patterns reproduced. John had many years to add them gradually.
