That is a very heavy radio and is pretty common. I paid $20 for RBK #1 which looked perfect and I was given a second one, less case, at a hamfest last year.

These radios are a S-36 variant and are probably the best constructed Hallicrafters receivers. It has the same attractively patterned front panel as the SX-28. They do a nice job on FM broadcast and have a great sounding audio section. This Navy version has an additional "radiation suppressor" stage between the antenna input and first RF amp and it absolutely kills the sensitivity. It is easy to bypass and you end up with a spare acorn tube in the process. Combined with the SX-28A by the military during WWII the pair provided coverage from the AM BCB through 143 Mhz. By itself the RBK covers 27 through 143 Mhz. in AM, wide band FM, and CW modes.

I had one given to me in similar condition and left it at the dumpster at Nearfest a few years ago, couldnt even give it away.

I'd agree - with that kind of rust, I would hesitate to offer more than a few bucks for parts. But with your assurance that "it works" - meaning that you may have plugged it in to see what happens - there is no way that I would waste the gas to haul it home. Plugging in a 70 year old radio to see if it works is an invitation to disaster.

It would help if you put your location in your profile so folks know where you're located. Someone may be willing to pay a few bucks if it was within pick-up distance but shipping costs would be a deal killer.

Bet if you put it on the big auction site it would bring 25-45$ not including shipping. just a thought. tt

Correction - it has not been tested and we do not know if it works or not. I am helping a friend to sell his dad's collection of old radios, tubes, testers, etc. I have an office full of this stuff and am trying to sort it through. All this to say the radio has NOT been plugged in and we have no idea if it works.
