Wow, that low huh?
I'd use it as a door stop before letting it go for that.

Thanks again for the info.

Thats actually not bad, it could be worse and there could of been none sold.. Theres been a guy on my local CL trying to sell a set of sansui sp-2000 speakers for 200.00 for about a year now.. I honestly dont know alot about sansui besides at one time they were very good quality stereos.. Today, most all of the 70s and 80s audio equipment brings very little money,bc either someone wants a huge 1950s Tube amp or someone wants a surround sound unit. I myself have been a pioneer guy for the most part.. Last year i sold my pioneer surround sound that wasnt but a few years old with a set of 12" speakers and i only got 100.00 out of it.. I even had a Pioneer GR-560 7 band EQ(1980s) which i had for many years and i tried moving it on CL and got no hits on it.. when i seen a few on ebay for around 50.00...

Just like radios it depends on a lot of variables. I sold a Sansui 9090DB receiver for $325 on CL. I had done some recapping on it and detailed it. It looked nice and sounded nice. There's quite a bit of interest in good 1970s stereo gear here. I have a near mint Sansui 8080DB I'm working on now. I Bought it along with JBL L-100 speakers from the original owner. They weren't cheap, but I like them.

I sold a 9090DB last year on Pay-Bay for $450, not bragging, since I just saw one sell for $900.

BTW the one I bought new is still used nearly every day - since my TV is running audio through it. No new caps (yet), but that may be because it has never sat around unused. I would never sell it, well at least not for $900.

I see one right now on the bay for 125.00 buy it now, but also see some with 300.00+ plus bids on them... I know sansui is good quality, BUT, is it honestly worth that kind of money????

I think that it is, as are many Pioneer and other quality units of that time. Keep in mind that I think that I paid over $400 for it in 1978. Let's see - that would be about a million in today's $$$. Since then, I have purchased many other more modern receivers with fancy things like remote control. They all have gone the way of CL for $25 - $50. I will admit that surround sound amps are great for movies and TV shows. Over these 34 years since I bought the 9090, I have concluded that a good stereo amp with the right speakers (2) is the way to go for music. It was, interestingly enough, also not as good to run the surround sound amps in stereo (only the fronts).

In my last house I built a "media room". It was great for movies, but, in my current house I built a "listening room". Also admitting that the receiver there is a Sherwood 7800 tube type. I will also concede that a good - and I mean GOOD - subwoofer can have its place in a music room. Also a plus - build the listening room in a separate building so the wife can't hear it.

I build subwoofer cabinets so that they have a Q that's as close to .707 as I can get them. This assures that they play low-frequency music and not boom-boom.
I hate boom-boom.
I like music. 8)

And, yes, Sansui had a few that cost a lot more than I could justify.

I think a lot of the reason for the high re-sale value of vintage electronics is because people are have finally become fed up with the cheap worthless chinese crap they've been fed for years.

Word is spreading - the quality, craftsmanship, and style of these pieces is what people want.

And I don't blame them one bit.

I get what you guys are saying, it all makes sense.. I mainly had 1980's stereo equipment, and it was decent.. but i also had newer stuff, and yeah it sounded good but couldnt come close to what my 1980's pioneer stuff could do. I will be using a dual 6v6 output tube amp for my muisic as soon as i get it and set it up, then i still have my techwood PL257 for movies and tv. I just never knew thee was such a strong market for 1970s receivers..
