I found this speaker along with a good many other strange things and was wondering if anyone knew anything specific about it. A brand, specific age, stuff like that. thanks. The speaker is all together now, but i have no pictures of it completed as well i have discovered a brass stand for it, but have yet to complete restoration. The nameplate on the stand that shows the manufacturer and model/serial number shows a KDL manufacturing corporation as the maker, but i cannot find anything about this company. If you know anything let me know, and i plan to have the stand finished and pictures on here soon.

I accidentally put it in the televisions section... i am pretty new here and dont know how to move it to radio, or the best location for it. If a moderator sees this would you please move it to a place more suited? thanks

If I had to guess, it looks like an intercom speaker with buzzer... 40's vintage with that black crackle paint and cord.

It is a balanced armature speaker , it should be highly sensitive and used with very low power output devices such as a low power tube battery radio

So much for guessing... Never seen one before, but it looks interesting. Could be from earlier than the 1940's if that's what it is.

I was wondering what that type of speaker was called. I really appreciate the information. If you want, check back tomorrow and i should have some pictures up of the stand, as well as a few pictures of the speaker with the grill cloth.

I concur with above quote. It is very probably a high impedance speaker; not your typical 4 or 8 ohm type (I would guess about 2000 ohms impedance)

Armature speakers are what hearing aids use today. They finally have got the computer
power needed to analyze why they work the way they do and tweak them.

A couple manuals I have refer to them as a "magnetic" speaker. Apparently popular on small battery operated gear as mentioned above.

Yes, they were early portable radio (not so) loudspeakers. You could restore as a curiosity, but frankly the quality is pretty poor. If you have a set that otherwise is OK, you could sub a (PA) 70.7 volt distribution to voice coil, use a 4 or 8 ohm PM speaker, and that's it.
