A couple of finds today... A guy called me who was re-habing a house and said he had some old sets in the attic. Found the following:

Philco 50-T1403
Motorola (need to get model number)
Westinghouse H17T238C (luggable)
Zenith radio was a bonus...

The Philco is needs a knob and the back, but is complete. And the picture tube was replaced (repair tag is still hanging) and tested very strong! The case is okay and will need finish work, but is solid.

The Motorola is complete, but the picture tube may be shot. Neck lights up bright purple as soon as filament power is applied - and reads a heater short and a G2 short. This may be parts...

And my favorite - even though a pain to work on, is the Westinghouse. The case is in very nice shape (saddle color) and the set is very complete. The picture tube, after 10 minutes warm up on the tester looks like it will be okay.

That's like the Motorola that I restored last year which got me into this forum. I was very pleased with my results. In fact I watched an epsiode of American Pickers on my Motorola last night!

I like the looks of that Philco 50-T1403 the best.

I'm chomping at the bit to dive in to them all... but need to keep on track with my others projects. And I will need to make a large cap order (especially for that Philco). I did a ringer test on the flybacks and they are good (as much as that tells), so if the various transformers and yokes are good, I'll be in business.

Nice finds! I believe that's a Motorola 17T5E.

Just as an FYI, that Zenith radio (in good, complete condition) is worth considerably more than all three TV's put together.

I wouldn't consider the Motorola a parts set, since it's a nice big chunk of Bakelite. Find a CRT for it. I had one of those back in the late 50's which was given to me by a neighbor. It worked well after changing a few caps and tubes.

Agreed - and actually, the Zenith bumped another project I had on the bench and now has it new electolytics and is slowy coming to life. I even found the missing pushbuttons inside. Along with a melted crayon (magenta) and two 1942 D wheat pennies...

I won't part the Motorola. In fact, I need to do some digging in storage as I think I have a true parts chassis that had a good CRT. This one looks very similar.

What a great haul!

Definitely find a CRT for the Moto, much too nice to junk.

I have the brochure for the Westy, it's a Lowey designed set if that matters any to you. :)
