Diode replacement

Greetings to all. I am recapping a Eico 324 Signal Generator. There is a rectifier according to the addendum to the manual described exactly "CR1 Rect., PWR., Silicon, 200V 750PIC". I've searched and read up on the rectifier but I'm having difficulty locating this exact part for replacement. Any suggestions from you Knowledgeable souls?

Just use a 1N4007.

It's cheap, will survive 1000V and half an amp of current. More than enough for any signal generator.

I think the original was a selenium rectifier. Your B+ may be a bit high with a silicon rectifier.

I appreciate the responses to date but I'm not understanding what the original rectifier specs are refering to. I've been looking for data but I can't seem to locate it. I don't mind doing the research in fact I enjoy it but this one escapes me.

This is enough spec to do a replacement.

If the original was either selenium or silicon, a 1N4007 is more than adequate as a replacement. You may have to add a resistor if you want the B+ to be the same as it was before replacement (if the original rectifier was selenium).

I have done this kind of replacement in HeathKit and KnightKit sig generators. Easy to do and reliable.

Can you physically describe the rectifier, or show a photo?

I looked at the manual for the Eico 324. The rectifier is shown as 50 mA. This means it was most likely selenium.

The transformer secondary is 110 VAC, so it's likely that the rectifier would have been called 200V.

You need a 1N4007 and 5 watt resistor and you're good to go.

750 PIV means 750 Peak Inverse Volts.... the max rating for the voltage of the rectifier.

A 1N4007 is 1000 PIV, so it's a good replacement.

OK, Great! My 1N4007 diode will do it. I'm going to study up on this matter if it arises again so I have a clear understanding. Thank you.

Seems you may already have a silicon in your 324, all the later ones came with silicon.

Apparently it is a silicon but I read somewhere when doing a recap, change those out also. Is that correct?

Not really. A silicon diode, as long as it is correctly rated and working, leave it alone. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
