Just picked it up. What's interesting is that it came with an (apperently?) matching Table. I didn't know Andrea offered a table option... It appears complete, including the back cover. I tested the 12JP4 and it's as Dead as the Proverbial Doornail. Of course the Brightener was a tip off. Overall, the finish is all there, with a few minor boo-boos. After breaking everything down, I believe I can bring the origional finish back to more than acceptable appearance. It looks like mahogany. Picked it up for 50 Bucks.

Very nice. Your dial glass is not broken and all the knobs are present. On top of that you stole it. Don't toss the CRT if it has a filament. Many can be brought back. This is a very nice set,

Nice score! I love the dial glass on these sets. I wonder if a 12LP4 would work in this set ? Probably easier to track down that a 12JP4.

A 12LP4 will work by moving back entire yoke, focus coil assembly, and, replacing second anode connector. I've done it with great success. Bill Cahill

I don't know anything about continuous tuner sets, but I'm wondering about how is works on Ch 7-13 with such a small range on the dial while Ch 2-6 are spread out?

Such a deal, I paid 4x that much for mine with a known bad CRT and no speaker or back. Be very careful with that dial glass, most seem to be broken, mine is but it's way at the bottom out of view, very hard to reproduce due to the multiple color scheme and printing on both sides. It's a very good performer, somewhat reminds me of a DuMont and probably shares some DNA since they use the same tuner and a 12JP4 tube. I replaced my tube with a 12KP4, an Aluminized LP4 but shorter and no Ion trap, works perfectly and very bright. Here's mine working: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLJpsIsRgjc

To tell the truth that set is junk but I feel sorry for you and would take it off your hands for $55.00. Please forget what I said earlier.

I'm glad to acquire this set, and for so very little $$$, and the fact that it has the rare table option. I've had my eyes peeled for an early Andrea for quite some time. It appears to be completely unmolested, right down to the cellar mold. A nice, thick layer of dust covers the chassis, tubes, etc. No signs of animal infestation. Underneath the dust is a rust-free chassis. I'm installing a new Computer that I just built, so I'm in the 21st Century this evening...

Steve Hey Steve, It moves, but not freely. All the tuner strings are attached, etc. I'll sneak up on it, clean it carefully, lube it, etc. ...and when I take the chassis out of the cabinet, I won't forget to remove all the knobs. That's how a bunch of those Tuner Glass Panels got busted, I'm sure.

Nice set, Lee. This will be interesting to watch your progress. Andrea's are not common around here at all.

Hi,
Very nice find. Have you looked underneath the table for any manufacturing marks? That may tip you to the table being part of a set. It sure looks like a match. Most likely built of mahogany. I wonder, tho, if a console would cost the same as the table AND the set? So why buy separately?
BTW, does the radio work? Is the FM band split in two? And the AM band is very unusual. A SW band would be great!
Enjoy.
Best, Maurice

The glass is attached to the chassis, I think they get broken when the chassis slides too far forward and crunches it against the cabinet, that and just banging it on the edge of the bench. I removed my glass and put it away safely until it was ready to go back together. Oh, and Steve, this ain't a "little" set!

Best, Maurice No marks or stamps on the table, but the way it's sized and styled I would be surprised if it wasn't an Andrea accessory. The A/C Plug is unraveled, so no plug-in. I made a quick pass at a corner of the cabinet, and it looks like it will bounce back: Good Ol' Howard's...

BTW, what should I be on the look out for this Set? Any weak spots, unusual characteristics I should be aware of? I looked underneath at the circuitry, and, it doesn't look too cramped in there. Thanks to All Of You.

I wet sanded the cabinet with Howard's and some 600 grit emory paper, and boy, is it bouncing back. Gentle sanding with the grain, even pressure and constant checking by feel. Only a few minor blems, or "beauty marks" as I like to call them (they add character) will be left in the finish, which is becoming satiny smooth to the touch. All the checking and cracking in the finish is dissapating nicely. The Chassis has beautiful cad plating on it. It is buried in dust, which I will blow away with compressed air after I remove the CRT. It will look good restored and back inside the cabinet. The CRT is origional to the TV. It's Part # and Serial # match a notation made by the factory on the inside cabinet schematic. Too bad it's dead. Perhaps I can bring it back...

Lee,
Good going! And a great find.
Andrea was made here in New York City. Probably in Long Island City which had a bunch of consumer electronic manufacturers (olympic, Fisher, Pilot and probably more).
A general question: Who made the tuners for small manufacturers like Andrea? Or were there suppliers for all the TV manufacturers, big or small?
My best for your restoration.
Maurice
