What do you guys use to repair a tube where the glass has become loose in the base but where the tube is perfectly good otherwise? I've read where superglue is not the way to go so that's out. Hi-temp silicone? Something else?
Thanks, Larry

A little DAB or two of super glue is o.k.,just don't encircle the whole tube or it will crack if it gets hot like an output tube or rectifier tube. Phil

I repair mine with Elmors glue. I put a coat around the glass and base and wipe off the excess with a damp cloth. Stand the tube on it's base (in a small container) overnight. Bill

I've used silicone, but only when the base was REALLY loose - so there was room to get it inside. I always use it for plate/grid caps...

I agree with the previous posters but I use Titebond II and use a small syringe to inject it into the crack between the glass and the base. I have found that small glass syringes are extremely useful in the shop for lubricating, contact cleaners, injecting glue into small places like tube bases and loose veneers. The glass is better since it will not react with certain solvents and, unlike plastic, can be thoroughly cleaned when done.

I use JB weld applied with a toothpick since it is dark. A little messy and you have to hustle to wipe off the excess with an old tee shirt but it does a job that you cannot see the repair.

I have tried Gorilla Glue - it works but is messy unless you wipe it clean right away. Uses water as a kind of catalyst.
