A friend droped off this old amp and speaker. It's in pretty rough shape, but not bad for it's age. There is no model number to help ID but I'm guessing it could have been part of a publc address system or similar. It has the following tube line up from right to left: 5Z3, 2A3, 2A3, 42 and the last socket is empty. I have to admit I never even hard of the company before. Does any one have any ideas as to the model and a guess what that missing tube could have been. On the left, there's some old tape on that box on the chassis I can barely make out Ribbon Mic on the top and Crystal Mic on the lower on.

The black box is probably a shield....it looks as if there are two more tubes inside it. A ribbon microphone would need a sensitive low-level preamplifier.

Your amp seems to pre-date the Setchel Carlson models shown in Riders Vol 8 and Vol 12.

You were right, there are two 6F5's in the box. So now the line up is: 5Z3, 2A3, 2A3, 42, unknown, 6F5, 6F5

An amp like yours apparently was on ebay last May, with a 6F5 in the socket that is empty on yours.
You have a PA amplifier from around 1935, probably rated in the 10 to 13 watt power range.
It looks like time to get out a pencil and a big sheet of paper, and a tube manual, and start drawing your own schematic.

Setchell Carlson model PA15 matches your tube line-up (with a 6F5) in the unknown spot). A schematic is in Rider’s PA manual Setchell Carlson page 1-6

Thank you very much MAG!
This morning I tried to visit a local radio museum that has the of Riders collection, but unfortunately they were closed. You have really helped. I hope the 2A3's are still good. Not sure what I will do with it but it really should be restored, maybe I can eventually run a CD player or turntable with proper preamp, throught the mic inputs somehow. It's a keeper.

You’re quite welcome! Wish there were more, but that is the only page in my manual for that amp.

Very cool amp. 2A3 tubes too...good find....and original speaker...excellent find. It will be a neat setup once restored. What type of speaker is in the cabinet? It looks interesting with the aluminum dust cover.

The speaker is labeled Wright Decoster, Precision Sound Reproducer, Model 690, feild coil, 10000 Ohms, Saint Paul Minn. so it looks like they didn't need to go very far to find a loudspeak suplier. Apparently, the brackets around the speaker were ment for winding the chord. This thing must have about 100 feet of old speaker wire terminated with a socket. If you look close on the aluminum dust cover you can make out the Wright Decoster logo. First impression is that the speaker is in good shape.

That's the oldest Setchell-Carlson product that I have ever seen. With the octal tubes, and those resistors, it's likely to be from 1936-39. Nice find, and I like that logo!

Setchell-Carlson was in business through the late 1960s, and made some interesting stuff. They are probably best known for their unusually-styled "frogeye" series of table and portable radios in the 1940s, but they also made TV sets as well.
