Hi gang,
I rescued a nice 38-4xx from a nasty basement today ..basement radio that had escaped
major rot thanks to 20 years of dryer lint flying everywere. I blew it off with air gun and oiled
the wood, looks pretty good, very little wood issue. The grill cloth is intact but will not withstand
cleaning (gentle or other wise) This set needs the correct chevron pattern for its proper look..it is the "focal point"
Anybody sell me enough to do 1 radio?? it seems out of production.. I like the 2 6f6's output..potentially
a nice player..I have yet to recap..anything to look for..lots of paper several cans and a couple bakelite condensers.
4/22 PICS..camera settings odd..color / lights set plays with caps and 150 / 25 ohm wire wound open, not sending current, tubes were hot and reception weak.. I subbed 120 and 10 for temporary test..
This Philco seems to not have the bass response I have on other push pull consoles
of similar construction, at least 10'' speaker....This radio has an odd tone control volume switch..layer of caps hooked to it

Yes the large chevron cloth does appear to be history. There may be some options that won't be quite right, but maybe better than nothing. Search things like "chevron upholstery" or "chevron drapery" and some things show up that might be usable. Unfortunately mostly smaller pattern chevron. Another option might be resorting to some gold stripe cloth that is sewn together on the bias down the center to simulate a large pattern chevron cloth.
