Hello, New guy here...
I picked up an old portable RCA Victor (8-EY-31HE) that I want to try and get working again.
I can turn the player on and it'll go through the cycles flawlessly. But there is no sound from the speaker. Just a faint hum. You can hear the needle scratching the song (very loudly might I add) but there's nothing coming from the speaker at all.
The cartridge actually looks brand new...but who knows how old it really is. I've read that these cartridges are almost all bad by now. Is there a replacement cartridge available or another that could be modified to work?
I went ahead and got a schematic and ordered capacitors to replace the old ones. I actually replaced all the capacitors today. The faint hum is practically gone now but there is still no music from the speaker. So could the cartridge be bad?
