I had seen similar comments in the user section at dealextreme and, apparently, the controller doesn't have enough code space, temp storage, and/or processing power for a lot of smarts so it just takes files in the order they appear in the FAT table, probably oblivious to file name.
Given the limited resources 'resetting' on stick insertion sort of makes sense as it's the simplest 'sync' mechanism: just 'start at the beginning'.

Where did the site go to that had the revised schematic with the +5 volt for the MP3??? I get "no site found".

Getting ready to start on xmitter #2 with the intent of doing a better, cleaner, less constricted job this time. I'm starting out with a project box 2.5 times larger, from an old Eico piece of test equipment. The new MP3 player panel arrived yesterday from China as did some of the needed kit parts so it's time to get it started.

Bill, as much as I would like to, it might be better to count on someone else for that. If it's finished and functioning fully I'll bring it along but right now it looks like I'll only be able to make it there on Friday,,, maybe. Saturday is my grandson's graduation from Bloomsburg University, I can't miss that, and Friday has become problematical. My widowed sister's son is scheduled to come home from college that Friday and my truck is the family hauling vehicle. If I can't find someone to fill in for me I may have to skip Friday as well. It's a shame the show isn't a week later.

I've been accumulating parts over the past few weeks and, thanks to Bill, a new kit to build #2. The parts I still need are:

Tube > 12CS6
X1 > Crystal Osc 1000Kc
R10, R11 > 27 Ohm, 2W resistors (2)

I'll hunt for the tube and resistors but I'm having a problem locating the 1000Kc crystal osc. Anybody have a source?

Mouser has the ECS osc in both 1MHz and 1.288Mhz, either 'full' or 'half' size.

Also CTS in 1MHz but the ECS is a tad less expensive

You can get the resistors there too, of course.

Digikey carries both ECS and CTS in 1MHz but they're more expensive than Mouser.

Jameco also carries a 1MHz osc

The 12CS6 is a 'dollar days' tube at ESRC/ABC and just plain ole listed as a buck at vacuumtubes.net.

I was thinking about adding a toroid option for L3 for the homebrewing fun of it. Anyone see a problem with doing this?

Bill: You could use a hand wound toroid for L3 like I did, but it's hardly worth the effort and expense.
