Looks like a sheet music storage cabinet.

Well, an Edison sheet music cabinet.

Appears to be the cabinet from an Edison C-2 radio-phonograph with the legs cut off.

From its size I would expect that it was used as a piano roll storage cabinet, as it is deeper than a typical sheet music cabinet.

Um... it's kind of painfully obvious that it's been hacked...

I agree with it being an Edison but I thought RCA used a similar cabinet as well.

Yes, if by similar you mean different.

The Radiola 41 bears a vague general resemblance in shape, but is wider, shallower, and would have been on higher legs. Ditto for the Radiola 62. Neither have the little shield of contrasting veneer around the knobs.

Over the years, I've owned examples of the C-2 and C-4, and all of the Radiola consoles save the Radiolas 50, 51, 21 and 86, and so am pretty well versed in the respective product lines.

The question is not "hacked" but "hacked what?" Yes, it's obviously hacked.
