I finished beating an old cast iron boiler to pieces with a sledge a couple of weeks ago. Felt great and relieved a lot of tension!

I've broken quite a few cast iron tubs. It's much easier than trying to remove them in one piece.

Never broke cast iron, but did cut into cast iron sewer pipe with a grinder to repair it. Had to cut a section of it out that had split down the middle, and section it back in with PVC.. No clue how it got split down the center, but it had to be fixed before the bathroom could be used. It wasnt very easy cutting it out either.

I have broken the mounting lugs on flange mount motors and pumps because I was too lazy to deal with the gland seal properly, and hoped more tightening would stop leaks.

Have sawzalled cast iron sewer pipe, and have beat the living daylights out of stuck iron pipe fittings with a BFH while heating with a torch until they busted into smitheens. That's about all my cast iron adventures.

When I was maybe 7 or 8 years old I had a great toy John Deere combine; not cast iron, I guess they're cast pot metal? Anyway, frustrated by how the head didn't rotate like it was supposed to I threw it on the ground and it broke off. I have thought about that many, many times and that lesson has helped me keep my temper.

Stomped on a really nice Zenith clock radio one Christmas eve. Had an RF stage, 6BJ6, too, dammit... Not cast iron. At least cast iron has scrap value, but not busted up plastic radios.

Same here, under a house, on my side, in the summer, with little light, with a 6oz ball pein. Actually the 6oz hammer is better than a sledge hammer or single jack under a house because it's shock/impact rather than brute force that's needed on a pipe held firmly in place. After my helper tried with a 16oz ripping hammer for 15 minutes, we bet lunch. I had the hub broken on 4" C.I. in 3 swings. He absorbed all my practical demonstrations and later became my partner in a plumbing company.

i have used a sawzall on cast iron pipe but if its the heavy wall type you will use a lot of blades unless you use the carbide grit blades which take forever.i bought a cutter which has a heavy chain with cutting wheels every inch or so.this wraps around the pipe and when tightened snaps it off in a circle.it also works good on the clay tile pipe.butch
