I think that the factory manager had a brain challenged brother so he put him to work soldering useless plates onto chassis while causing the entire engineering world to wonder what it is for

I was looking for that thread, lost track of it. Was confused to see this new one.
Is there a wire loop antenna on the rear of that set when it's in the cabinet? Saw a picture online of a supposed 56X3 set
with the rear panel on, couldn't see the metal plate in the view I was looking at. Wasn't the best pic though.
Just curious what it's supposed to look like with the chassis installed in the cabinet.
Anyone have good pictures? Didn't see any in the other thread either. Just the chassis.

Here is a link to my original post that suddenly stopped working:

The loop antenna is normally attached to the chassis by a couple wooden spacers about the size of a thread spool. With the chassis installed in the cabinet, you usually see the back of the loop since most cardboard back plates have fallen apart or have been lost to time. If you're looking for pictures of the radio in question, here is a link: http://radioattic.com/item.htm?radio=0270286

Radio Attic photo of back. Notice the metal plate is mysteriously absent, apparently never installed or removed by the owner: http://radioattic.com/item.htm?radio=1110042

[quote="Cdoose"]Sunday I had a post all prepared and then submitted it only to find the thread had been locked. Lost the post and got irritated.

You're not the only one irritated. I've had posts suddenly disappear for no apparent reason and, of course, the unexplained lock on the original thread. I've done quite well year-to-date with both silver and equity investments and had planned on making a significant donation to help support the board. Now, I'm having second thoughts. And if the unwarranted meddling continues, I will simply remove AR from my bookmarks.

Might want to be a little more careful of what you say. You cannot discuss moderator actions out in an open forum. Any moderator issues should be handled by a PM to a moderator.

If posts were deleted and the thread was locked there was a good reason for it.

Nice link! Thanks. I used to pick this one up on a crystal set I build back in the 50's and it's still on the air. It sends OS in morse code _ _ _ . . . once every 10 seconds.
