I found this listing tonight and did some searching;

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/atq/2966023169.html

The tombstone pic is from another collectors website. I emailed him for confirmation and he came back within minutes;

Hi, sure looks to be my photo. Smells like a scam to me. Cash only!!!

By all means get the word out. Second scam today - someone has a photo of my Sparton 557 up on ebay as their own.

Thanks,
Paul

I emailed the seller but nothing. I did not find a match to the console. Original post at VK;

Tombstone worked on a tractor battery (wet cell) but now it uses dry
cells for A and B power? Yeah, sure.

Restorer had delivered these two sets halfway across the country from
AZ to PA??

He won't release personal info? I wonder how this scam is going to
play out. Smells like a dead fish.

At least he dropped the price from yesterday's listing. From $398 to $325.

Can you post link to other web collectors pic?
If he is cash only, I fail to see the scam unless he is waiting with a gun for someone to pick up.
And yes a bit odd about hand delivering from AZ. Long drive.
It is 20 miles away from here and I always wanted a 10s470.
Please post pic link asap.
Thank you
Peter

There have been SEVERAL problems with Craigslist sales in this area. I will NOT buy ANYTHING on Craigslist, and especially any high $$ item. The scam goes like this: the seller posts a photo, usually a car in cases I have heard about. It is NOT his car! The listing says cash only. When you agree to purchase, he gives you an address (not his). He meets you with a weapon and takes the cash.

I first asked the seller about the tombstone pic being from another website and he replied;

I just found out that this one I have isnt a 5a127 or a 5s127, its a 5f127, I learn something new everyday.

I then asked about the photos of the console and he replied;

Yes, it was taken by my buddy at my house. They are both outstanding radios. I bought them out in Tuscon Arizona when I was working at the medical center there. This guy has or had, this was back in 2003 I believe, a restoration shop with hundreds of amazing restorations. I ended up buying 4, two console, the tombstone and a 40's portable Philco. Now since they are actually kinda delicate I paid the guy to deliver them to PA, set them up and test them.

I really don't want to sell these two but I am recovering from surgery and I am trying to put the money together to get out to North Dakota where there is a less then 4% unemployment rate.

I kept my questions short of saying scam. For your consideration.

I can't comment on the radios. But Dave's antiques in Tucson was a real place. I have been there many times. Dave closed a few years ago. He did have another guy in his place with a service shop. His name was Mike Hilton.

If you go back to his Craigslist ad, you'll see he has now changed the pictures.

Good Day Gentlemen,
I just wanted to put to rest all of the skepticism about my posting on craigslist being a scam, the radios just sold and I’m comfortable with saying that the gentleman who purchased them is happy with his purchase at $325.00 and I will be anxious to see them once he goes over them.
As far as having the radios delivered from AZ to PA, yes I indeed did.
The gentleman at the restoration place was coming to PA he said for a family reunion or something in Kutztown PA. So as long as he was going to come through PA anyway why not have him hand deliver them for a little extra cash ($100.00) instead of trusting the apes at UPS or FEDEX to deliver them in one piece. That seemed like a good deal so why not.
Now as far as the Cash only, I don’t take a check from anyone and ever since I posted the sale of these radios I have gotten a ton of email from people saying they want them but they can’t come to inspect them and that I should give them my name, address and so on so that they can send me a bank check and have a shipper pick up the items. So in posting cash only those emails stopped.
If any of you had any questions about anything you could have just emailed me as Dave did, I was honest and up front with him about the photos and everything I posted, all you had to do was take the time to email me.
To the gentleman who has been to the shop in Tuscon, Im sure you felt like I did when I walked in there, I felt like I was a kid in a candy shop. It is a shame they closed that shop, it was an amazing place and they were great people.
In closing,
Good Day and Good Luck to all. :D

What's a shame is that you weren't honest and upfront about using someone else's pictures to attract attention to your radios. Does 'bait & switch' sound familiar?

Yeah Ok, it wasn't a bait an switch, this happen because I depended on someone else to post the add because Im not supposed to be out of bed yet after surgery. But thats ok, the world needs paranoid people also.

Funny thing is, the guy who purchased the radios has posted on this thread, I'm just glad he is happy with his purchases and I look forward to seeing his photos when he has them up and running.

Its nice to know that my radios went to someone who isn't going to rip them apart to part out on ebay.

So Once again, Good Day. :lol:
