Hello:
I'm working on a German EMUD T-7, 1957. It has what could be a couple of rust spots, maybe from contact with the speaker inside. Can this be "spot" cleaned without removing the cloth? If so, what could I try?

Thank-you.

Iron oxide is tough to get out in the wash as it is. I doubt you'll be able to make an impact on an iron oxide stain in that situation.

I've used this product to remove rust stains from clothes:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... JQBEPMCMAE

It did not need to be washed -- sprayed on several times and the stain is gone. However, it does mention the fabric needs to be colorfast -- don't know about how it would react on a grille cloth. Maybe try it on a hidden piece first.

That's the bruiser right there. :) Colorfastness is usually only important on new materials that may have a tendency to wash out with certain cleaners and detergents, but it could still apply to old materials, as there is a risk of bleaching and/or yellowing.
