Beautiful work Stan!!! It's such a great feeling to see an old radio restored to its original glory.

Oh yeah! Bee-yoo-tee-ful!

My favorite of the 12 tube '38 consoles!
Though, I have yet to own one :P

Is that finished in nitrocellulous lacquer? it looks wonderful!

With an example like that, it's really hard to defend "don't refinish". Beautiful! That greenish look of old lacquer begs to be restored.

Is that finished in nitrocellulous lacquer? Just Behlen's, a Mohawk product.

Beautiful, exquisite work. Outwstanding ... but I have an issue.

Many old high end consoles I have seen with certified original finishes had a hard semi-gloss to gloss look, depending on the manufacturer and cabinet model.

The second tier level radios were typically wood/oil finished or in a sort of satin finish.

Shouldn't this radio really have a gloss/semi-gloss finish instead of a satin finish?

Overall a wonderful piece of work, though.

It is a satin finish. The light reflection in the camera might make it look shinier that it really is.

Very nice job on the finish Stan.
Here's my 12-S-266 with completely original finish. My favorite of the 1938 12 tubers. Up very, very close the laquer has tiny hairline age cracks running through it but looks perfect at arms length. Only thing I've used on it is furniture polish. I had a perfect original grill cloth I removed from a 12-S-265 that I was going to put in it but it ended up in a 12-S-267 I later found so I'm still waiting to find another. The hole in the cloth was made when we moved it :x
