Hi all- Can anyone tell me if they've heard of this radio? The brand name is "Comet", it's in a leatherette case, says 'American Made" and it appears to be a TRF. Mine plays great, great sensitivity but lousy selectivity. See the punchouts on the chassis that look like they were for IF transformers! Old style construction. I'm going to try to attach two photos and not embarrass myself in the process. Here goes!

Rare indeed, as I can't find a mention of it in my Bunis Transistor Radio Guide.

And a three-Transistor circuit with no IF's? It looks like they used a tube radio oscillator coil for a F/B arrangement.

Yes, selectivity wouldn't be much better than a two-Transistor Boys Radio. I would imagine stronger locals swamp the dial.

Notice the similarity of the knobs to the Emerson Miracle Wand 847;

I've never seen one, either...

Looks to be six transistor ( looks like three "top-hats" at the right by audio transformer )...

Can you show a pic of underside of chassis ? Maybe IFT's below ?

Good catch; I didn't recognize them initially.

The IF's must be underneath, and the set prolly needs a recapping and alignment to perform as it should if it's a Superhet, which is most likely.

I'll yank the chassis to see what's underneath and post a pic. I'm sure I had it apart when I got it 20+ years ago but I don;t remember. The tuning cap suggests Superhet but it sure performs like a TRF.

...that's a dual-gang tuning cap all right, but unless I'm not seeing something right, it looks like only one section is actually connected to anything...lot of unused lugs on there...
