DNS Malware: Is Your Computer Infected?

http://www.fbi.gov/news/stories/2011/no ... are_110911

To assist victims affected by the DNSChanger malicious software, the FBI obtained a court order authorizing the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) to deploy and maintain temporary clean DNS servers. This solution is temporary, providing additional time for victims to clean affected computers and restore their normal DNS settings.

The clean DNS servers will be turned off on July 9, 2012, and computers still impacted by DNSChanger may lose Internet connectivity at that time.

Check to see if your computer is using rogue DNS:

Safe on mine, I have used Nortons Power Eraser last night then found the blurb from FBI so I went to the Colaborative Web Page and got a green POP up.

I've found Norton products to be too intrusive; I use Microsoft Essentials. 4 years running and no problems.

And yes, all my machines came up green on the first go-round.

I switched to OpenDNS, back when DNS cache poisoning was the vogue and I haven't looked back.

But then, I'm the kind of wierdo who periodically reads his hosts file, just to be on the safe side. ;)
