Does anyone know of a vintage turnable that is similar in looks to a Rek o kut? I love the simplicity of the design.
Thanks, Cody

I think there was a Japanese turntable that physically looked similar. IIRC, the brand was "Neat". Mechanically, there were many broadcast turntables that were made similar to the Rek-O-Kut TT's. They all had massive motors, platters, and idler wheels and the main reason they were built so massive was to take DJ abuse and so they could come up to speed in 1/4 rotation. I have broadcast TT's by QRK, Russco, Collins, Sparta, Rek-O-Kut, Gates, and BE; and, they are all built very similar.

The Rek-o-Kut turntables for broadcase usage were heavy-duty things with rim drive very similar to QRK. But the famous hi-fi models, like the Rondine, were belt-drive like the Empire turntable.

The Rondines were idler rim drive also. The K series were belt driven.

Here's a ROK B12-71 broadcast turntable from the '70's. This one looks like it was actually built by QRK. I realize the older B12's looked different; but, the method for platter rotation was basically the same. BTW, the tonearm on this one is a Micro-Trak/Gray Research 303.
