Last week, I finally took the Technician test, and passed it. There were almost 20 people there taking the test. Some for the General, and one for the Extra.

I did try the General, and came close. Since I'm in study mode, I'm going to keep going. I found a test location that seems like it offers the testing monthly. Least through the summer. So, that's the next move.

Waiting for the FCC database to be updated with my information and call...

Frank.

Let me also offer my Congrats. Might as well go all the way as you are still in study mode.
This will be a great adventure for you and I'm always happy to meet a new Ham.
This is my 54th year as a Ham operator and I don't consider it a hobby but more a way of life.
Hope to work you on the air as soon as you get a station up and running....

Best,
Pete

Same here as well, congrats and welcome to the club.
I upgraded from the grandfathered Advanced to Extra Class about two weeks back.
The thrill of passing is great in any class.

In case you haven't tried it go to http://www.qrz.com when you get your call and register on the site. They have great practice tests from the questions sets and keeps track of your score as you improve.

Also try www.w5yi.org and order the Gordon West study books. He really makes General and Extra Class tech material easier to understand.

Frank,

Congratulations! You will have your general ticket soon and hopefully start restoring and operating some classic tube type transmitters.

Be sure and post your call sign when it comes through.

Congrats! and welcome to the club....
BTW, a true Ham never gets out of "study mode" <g> the whole principle of the hobby is self improvement.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys for the kind words and web site info!

One of the draws to this for me is that it's more about learning and growth in the hobby. Personal development. I know this is for me.

I found my call sign in the database yesterday. KD0RUC.

What a great feeling to see my name and sign come up there. Something to be said about putting in effort and seeing a positive result....

Frank.

Congrats! I'm studying morse now (yes, I know it's no longer required) and will begin studying shortly for my exam also.

Maybe we'll see each other on the radio someday (lol!).

Good luck and General, here you come!
