...Losing a pet always sucks. I had to say goodbye to my 13 year old pup today. He was dying from kidney failure and something else that we were unsure of, and died in his own yard at the farm the day the decision was made to have him put down. I'm not too sad but more relieved that he doesn't have to suffer anymore. He led a pretty good life and was a really good companion. Not too many dogs (or people) had the freedom and relaxing life that ol' Teddy experienced. He was also one of the last of my childhood pets, guess that's a sign that I'm getting old :(

Wow. I'm really sorry. I'm still going through the 'ghost phase' with my cat.

Accept my most heartfelt condolences. I lost my best friend 2 years and 8 months ago, and it still hurts.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
Dogs are the best companion a person can have. There are days I still miss the dog I had when I was growing up.
There's a lot we can learn from a dog.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

Be happy knowing that his life could not have been much better. Most animals live a short and painful existence, so he was one of the truly lucky ones.

I'm so sorry :( Beautiful dog. Just know that he loved you and you loved him, and like Lou said, he'll never truly leave you. We had to put down our beagle Max this past summer, and it killed me. He was my best friend. Losing a pet is just like losing a family member. Hang in there. Here's a poem that I found to be extremely comforting when we lost Max. I'm a believer.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Jeremy, May your memories of Teddy comfort you during this time of loss and your memories of him will bring you joy when the time is right!
Thinking of you and Teddy.

I lost one cat and one dog in 7 months last year and I know how you feel. I hope some day your heart will be open to bring another pet
into your life! There is no greater love than when it comes from a pet!! :D

Thanks for the kind words guys! It's is always sad to see a pet go, but I don't focus on the sadness. I rather look back on the great life that they lived and that we provided for them. Teddy definitely had it made, he lived better than a lot of people probably do.

I won't be getting another dog myself, I simply don't have the room at my house or the time. My parents still live on their farm right down the road, and they plan on adopting another dog from a shelter in the upcoming weeks. Teddy was adopted from a shelter as a puppy, so the new dog will probably come from the same place. So hopefully another pup will have a chance for a good life just like Teddy :D

Jeremy, you and your folks seem like really great people and any dog would be
lucky to find a home with your mom and dad!! Be sure to share the good news
when the times is right and your folks get a new someone to love-dog!!!
