Hello all,

I've got this dial:

Its supposed to look like the picture here:

I don't expect I can make it look identical, but a suggestion or two to make it look better would be much appreciated.... I thought about filling it in w/ epoxy putty, but then I came to my senses and decided I didn't think it would be smooth enough to look much better.

Maybe carefully sandpaper the insides so they're smoother, and then gold paint?

Suggestions please?

Thanks,

David

Could you get a brass disc of the appropriate size and glue it on?

Something like this?

That's a pretty good idea.... if I can find one big enough. the space for the ring is almost 2 3/4".

If I can't find a brass disc big enough, I suspect I can at least find a piece of plastic of an appropriate size, paint it gold, and glue that in place.

This is one of those days I wish I had a lathe....

Thanks for the idea...

David

I need the same kind of thing for my RCA 561 that is missing the disc from in the center of the speaker on the cabinet.
I was thinking of paint too. Those discs look nice but they appear to be flat and as thick and heavy as a washer and I know on mine it is a slight cone shape so would not work unless I had a way to stamp it into a cone shape.

If I ever come up with anything better then paint I will post it, and please post your final decision and outcome too.

Mine has a slight "cone" to it as well. I figure even a flat disc over it would look better than nothing at all. (Even with the mismatches)

I'll let you know what I come up with. Maybe someone else has an idea still?

The cone shape is tough. I figure you can find a piece of brass in the right size, at least. That would do until another knob (or another method) shows up. I think lots of jewelry makers use these discs, the etsy link above mentions contacting them for other sizes.

Little FYI - those brass cones were probably spun rather than stamped.
