The people who are trying to sell it have been trying to for some time now. I would probably go for it because they sound really nice.

Sounds like it might be time to offer $75. It looks really nice. The changer should not be that big of a deal. Probably a good cleaning and maybe idler assembly and cartridge.

I have a feeling this post is going to get moved to the Online Auctions and Sales Forum.
But my 2 cents: This is a great unit. I've owned four of this exact same model, 2 in blonde and two in mahogany. They sound great, with really great bass and excellent separation. The most I paid for any of them was $50. When serviced, I sold 2 of them that were in extremely good cosmetic condition for some serious profit. That being said, I think that if you really want it, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it, all the way up to the $125. Of course, I see no reason that you should not be able to get it for $75, and you have nothing to lose by trying.
You will find that if you get it, you are going to have to start searching for the matching stereo speaker unit SHS-4. But you can use another speaker in the meantime, or you can use the unit in mono as well. You'll also get some great experience recapping the amp...as I recall, it's something like 27 paper and electrolytic caps in all.

I understand; I mostly hang out on the Vintage Audio forum. There are forums here for everybody who gets into antique electronics, and everyone has at least one favorite forum. Take a look around and see what else we have to offer. Larry

That is a great unit...same as a SHC-2,3,and 6 but just with a different cabinet. Price ain't terrible if it is right at your door step. As MB mentioned $50-$75 sounds like a good deal but again if it is close and the seller stubborn it might be worth it anyhow...bet he wants $100.
The thing is you might find another for $25 down the road, but it may be 150 miles from you, not work at all and have water stains all over the top. I would go check this out if close by, if it is REALLY clean no stains or bad scratches on top...that is a big plus and worth a couple extra bucks there. I bet you guys will hash a deal out.
Make sure and take a big car and an extra hand to lift T

I got it and it is home safe and sound! It is so pretty and I can not wait to work on it! The top is just kind of dull...no water stains or anything. Should I use some Murphey's oil to restore the shine or is there another route I could or should take? It is very clean...just a couple of spider webs. It smells of incense which I do not mind. We picked it up from a loft in an industrial district. The loft was used for art exhibits. Any hints, tips, or suggestions are more than welcome right now! Paid full price...seller was firm. Mother's Day gift to myself! Thanks in advance! Edited to say...45 adapter is missing...can I get it from VM?

Nice work Mary. Have fun with it. For someone who got into this recently, you have a very good eye. Anyone would be happy to have that set.

Remember that the cartidge is part of the "out of Phase" year, so might give you a little problem, but BB and other Ortho sages should be able to talk you through it. I can tell you though, once you recap the 'lytics and paper, and clean the switch contacts, that baby will boom! The FM alone is reason to get that console. Welcome to the cult of New Orthophonics

Not a problem -- any modern cartridge can be used by wiring it out-of-phase. Anyway the old cartridge might still be OK.
