Can anyone ID the cabinet, chassis or dial? It isn't a Detrola, and doesn't look like any General Television that I have seen. It's very unusual to see a cabinet with a glossy finish inside.

Air King is written in pencil on the back of the chassis.

What a cool set!! It's not often I see something I haven't seen somewhere before.

My guess is a Frankenradio.

The cabinet looks like a Teletone Speaker with a chassis inserted.

Notice how the back doesnt fit.

But still cool.

Victor Lumier speaker...

Not a very common speaker and, to my knowledge, the only one ever offered by Victor.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the set is not authentic but was homemade by someone, perhaps recently or perhaps decades ago.

The board supporting the chassis did not seem to match the rest of the cabinet, and the bent up red patent plate on the chassis were additional clues, as well as the shiny finish inside the set and the strange back.

Did Air King ever use red metal patent plates riveted onto the chassis? The ones I remember had a silver paper or foil label, with AKP printed near the bottom corner. Someone could have identified a schematic similar to the chassis based upon a tube layout and written Air King on the chassis.

I agree with the "Franken-radio"

too many red flags to be a production piece.
looks pretty well done as far as taking a speaker and a chassis and melding them together but...
still, I wouldn't mind having it.
it looks like a nice conversation piece.

The chassis, knob layout, dial and escutcheon are very similar to a small metal Aetna that I have. I am not at home right now but I will look when I get back tonight. I think it (mine) even has those same knobs.
As far as the speaker case that its housed in. I have a Brunswick speaker that is nearly identical.
I have to hand it to the maker. It looks nice.

I've enlarged the pic of the chassis and I'm fairly certain it says "Air King Magnetic", in pencil. The A-K Magnetics were made about 1933 and were 4 tube chassis. Most certainly homemade.

What's the thing on the left side of the chassis that kinda looks like a broken tube? Is that a coil? A transformer that's missing it's shield can?

People are bidding on it.

Yes, probably several of us. I usually snipe, though.

This does give one cause to pause.

I have a couple of RCA 100A laying around and a number of small 4 tube chassis.

I see a project coming on.

Ended at $510, a large amount for a radio which the ARF sleuths have determined is likely homemade.

The old adage again proves true: A Fool and His money, are soon parted.
Hmmmmm, making Franken radios could be a profitable sideline.

Would a real radio have the dial light shining through the extra holes in the cabinet behind the grille cloth?
