Since they locked the previous May post over kids stuff I'll start another. Please no Chrysler commercials.

Yes, let's keep it on the topic of radios and if you don't like someones radio there is no need to bash it. Here is my find at an auction last night for $25.

OK, here is my Christmas in May Zenith 9s262 that made it's way here from NY state. $50 and no speaker. Case is already stripped and partly redone. Veneer (if you can call it that) is literally paper thin and has been sanded through right on the top curve. My first attempt at a case restoration.....we'll see how that goes Gene

Two radios I was going to look at before I bought a new 5.0 Stang.... The zenith 9s262 was really temping as I live only 20 minutes from the guy. I talked to him and he went on about how he probably threw the speaker away and can't find the knobs! $50 for the chassis is a good deal though... I would probably wait for a good cabinet.

I have already found a complete speaker with cone and brass rods and gotten the grille cloth. The 6T5 eye tube was still in place and I installed it in my Crosley Dynatrol 1127 and it actually works, so I feel the $50 was well spent. I'll see how the cabinet turns out, and keep my eyes peeled for another as well. Knobs will probably wind up being repros.

I finally landed a Zenith chair side, after a three year dry spell. It's a 6-S-340, and it's in pretty good shape. The cabinet will retain the original finish with minimal scuffs and light scratches, and the grill cloth is passable, but it does need a repro dial and dial glass. It looks like the glass has been missing since the 1960s, and the dial itself took a beating as it faces straight up. I got the glass today and the repro dial is on the way from Radio Daze. It looks like a few wax caps got swapped out 40 years or so back, but that's about all the repairs under the hood. Here's a link to the one on Radioattic's site. Mine looks identical. http://www.radioatticarchives.com/radio.htm?radio=3613

@DNYADUDE Nice chairside and congrats!! I have been looking for one for a very long time, years. You don't see them here in Minnesota and I need to find one in working condition. A chairside is on my bucket list of radios. When you get yours all fixed up how about a picture so I can have some thing to drool over...Ha, Ha! Congrats again! Lynn

Picked up a really cool Zenith 410 6-leg console in a small central Virginia shop in an old Texaco station . Almost walked by it, had stuff stacked on top. I really didn't need another console and I actually left it there, thought about it on the drive to coastal NC and after looking at the 3-59 tubes circuitry on Nosatalgia Air called the lady and said I'd get it on the way back home. I'll try and get to a photo soon-radio is in largely original condition, all knobs good, fretwork perfect, grille cloth, large metal tube shield, etc. lady said it played and offered to fire it up but I passed. Price was $40 but she handed back $5 when I loaded it! Only got to look at it today at lunch-it's still in my truck. Tubes look to be a mix of orignal Zenith globes and STs (the 59s) except for a globe Philco 80!. IFs don't look original, the cans are a lot smaller than the chassis slots seem to be designed for. Hope I don't have to hunt 175 kC IFs.
What would happen if you used say, 262 kHz IFs where the radio called for 175 kHz?

Wow That is cool! I love the Book radio. You can almost see their motive. War time and licensing. Really neat find, DKinYORKpa.

Got this very nice, HEAVY duty magnifying light off eBay. Very bright, concentrated light, LOTS of magnification, and it's gotta way at least 20lbs. This is a nice addition to my shop. Wish I had it before I assembled my SSTRAN

That is a very nice Luxo magnifier! I have one of those myself. Absolutely indispensable when working on small parts and circuit boards Bob Rosengarten, I'm envious! Though, I'm afraid installing 262 KHz IFs instead may bring about a problem with tracking of the LO with the RF section. That is if you can get it to align up. Though, you might be able to bring down the 262s to 175 by adding a small cap across each coil. It would be interesting to see if it could be done. -Steve

Here is a nice Salvation Army find, a Bang & Olufsen Beomaster 2000 receiver and Beocord 2000 tape deck. They were a whopping .99 cents each! The receiver works fine but I have the tapedeck apart right now, it needs a belt kit. It goes well with my modernism stuff. Dennis

A few more finds for me, too. First, a couple of Bakelites from the same chap that I got the radios in my last post from. A Stewart Warner Model 9152B and a General Electric Model 12???? - the label has a lot missing, so I cant read the rest of it. Attachment:

Next, from a garage sale where they hadn't bothered to put them out and I asked, an RCA Victor Model 4T. There's a few small pieces of missing veneer and some lifting on the front, but I think it's eminently restorable. Also, from the same sale, a neat little Watterson cube - no idea of the model # because the label has faded - I guess I'll have to look at the line up. Attachment:

I also scored a Simpson 260 (model 1 or 2) which was nice, because I sold my 260 a year or two back and promptly regretted it ever since and a Weston Analyzer - they both need cleaning up and testing before I take any pics. Finally, I saw (but passed on) a Zenith 34P (don't have the room, grill was busted, but it did have all the original globe tubes) and a Philco Predicta (neat, but I'm not into TVs and they wanted $300).
