I just finished watching the entire series of "The Wire" for the third time. It's the best TV series ever made. I've read the major novels by Dostoyevsky, Proust, Tolstoy and many others. "The Wire," about 60 one hour TV episodes long, is right up there with the best novels ever written.

I did watch the "Wire" series but didn't care for it, myself. Liked "Justified," and Breaking Bad," and "Lie to Me," better. However the greatest series, in order, are: Deadwood, Rome, and the Tudors. My opinion. Interested in hearing others opinions.

The best TV series is debatable..however, being born in the 1980's, and growing up in the 90's I would have to say Saved By the Bell was one of the best Tv series that ever aired.. I could also say that about The A-Team.. Both of them shows ran for quite sometime.. so that has to say something about them...

How about the mini-series:

Roots
and
QB-VII ( Queens Bench Seven) starring the late Ben Garza

"QB VII was made into an American television six-and-a-half hour miniseries produced by Screen Gems; it was also the last program from Columbia Pictures' television division under the Screen Gems banner.
It began airing on ABC on April 29, 1974. Adapted to the screen by Edward Anhalt, it was produced by Douglas S. Cramer and directed by Tom Gries. The original music was written by Jerry Goldsmith and the cinematography by Paul Beeson and Robert L. Morrison.

The series was nominated for thirteen Emmy Awards, winning six."

Anything from the 1950's to the 1980's is great tv.1990's was ok.Current tv programming stinks.Tired of the reality tv glut. The Sitcoms
are not funny no more.I do like the CSI shows.

Hands down, "All In The Family". Laughter, character study, social commentary, and only one commercial break (Bayer Aspirin).

Too many different opinions, time periods, likes/dislikes to ever narrow down this topic.

What about The Three Stooges? That should at least be in the running.

The Three Stooges was not a TV series. They were movie shorts that were played on TV after their theater run. Same with Laurel & Hardy.

IMHO the best classic TV series was The Fugitive.
