I vote for the TV series Amos N Andy.
I can watch it over and over because there are many exceptional moments.
Several actors should have received Oscars for their acting performances.
It was well written, funny without using vulgarity, and had undertones of a moral message.
Today, I don't think it disses African Americans.

"Northern Exposure" would be very high on my list of candidates.

I agree with Northern Exposure until the Dr. Fleischman character got too big for his britches and then the series went down hill from there. Also for a recent series, "Life on Mars" was a good series I thought. Heck of a finale episode!

No complaints from me about most choices. I enjoyed Laverne and Shirley. Taxi
would manage to amuse me every week too.

The original UK version of Life on Mars was excellent! The sequel, Ashes to Ashes, was pretty good too and the final episode of that was gob-smacking!

For me the best are Fringe and The X-files.Fringe has to be watched right from the beginning or nothing will make sense.I also like NCIS, NCIS:LA, House and South Park.

Northern Exposure is tops on my list too. The best cast of characters ever. I loved them all.

I guess its re-release on DVD is a mess because of the copyrights on the show's original music.
I especially liked Ruth Ann and also Ed Chigliak.
The whole damn cast was cool.

Commenting about the guy who commented about the music on the Northern Exposure DVD series. I would swear that the song they played on tv the episode where they were suposed to fling a cow with a catapult but used Maggies old piano instead was Whiter Shade of Pale, but in the DVD it was something else. I could be full of it, but it was 20 years ago! Still a good series though.

We may want to narrow this down by themes and decades.
For example:
1950s
Best western show
Best comedy show
Best drama show
Best variety show

Well, then. Nobody at all on this list liked "The Wire." It does make some demands on the viewer, and it took the first two seasons before I was really a believer. Nonetheless, I'm a little surprised that nobody has mentioned "The Sopranos." I've been intending to rent the first season of "Justified" and see how it goes.

Always liked the idea of two guys driving across the U.S. looking for adventure in an early 60's Corvette.

It was OK, but I'm more into historical programs. It is interesting to see the diversity of responses here.
