This one was listed originally at $3800 in an auction format, then was changed to a $4500 BIN. I thought that someone might have arranged this with the seller, but the radio was up for a half hour before it was bought. So...it looks like the seller decided on his own to change the listing. I'm thinking he shortchanged himself given how fast it went, and how the speaker alone has sold for close to that price on eBay. I think the same thing happened with a MS VI in a Clifton cabinet last year. Hopefully they aren't being harvested for their speakers.

I think I recognize the buyers ID as someone from the forum.

Oh no -- what a shame. :x :x

The guy who bought it sold an 18 inch Jensen for $8800 back in March. I'm sure we'll see the speaker from this one up on ePay soon.

Pretty soon there aren't going to be any McMurdo-Silvers with the 18 inch speaker left. :x :x

I guess it is a free market. Its too bad the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole. Also, the speaker cone on that set did look to be damaged, but it was hard to tell. It could have been a seam (which I don't think they have) or a reflection or something.

Hopefully the Clifton cabinet didn't end up in the landfill.

Oh, I am sure it didn't. The buyer knows value and either already sold it or plans on using it for the Jensen speaker. The cabinet alone s/b worth 1-2k in the market, although that one needed some attention, so maybe a bit less.

Well here's one speaker that's not going to get flipped by anybody, including myself. It's in mint condition and I know I could get $3000+ for it, on Evilbay, from some audiophile from Hong Kong but, unlike this buyer who's apparently a chopshop/seller of vintage audio components, I'm currently pursuing the opposite quest of trying to find a good tuner/amp to go with my speaker. I believe the same speaker was used with both the Masterpiece V & VI.

So doesn't it look like the spkr cone is damaged below? or is it the seam?

This is your big chance, though it's too bad that Mr. Chop is selling the amp and tuner from the MS V separately.

If anyone is ever interested in selling a complete MS V or MS VI down the road, let me know -- definitely on my bucket list of radios.

Bob, I have a nice MS 5 in a Croydon cabinet that I would swap for the right Pilot. PM me your email address if you are interested and I will send pics.

I have an MS VI with a prefect speaker, and it too will never get taken apart.

The one thing I do need is the dial scale. Mine has a small chunk broken out of it. I'm sure I could reproduce it one of these days, but if anyone comes across a trashed MS VI tuner that's being parted out, I'm interested. (The dial scale is different on the V and the VI).

Only shown here for you to drool on it Bob. Sorry not for sale. We are only the second owners on this MS-VI . It came complete with a log book showing every time the owner bought tubes or had anything done to the radio. It sets in "Big Dog Row" Zenith strat, Jr Strat, Philco 37-690, Scott Philly 30, this the MS-VI, GE E155, Majestic 1250

Interestingly, a few other radios also used the Jensen 18" speaker:

- I am pretty sure the Crosley WLW had one
- The EH Scott Quaratra had one as the woofer and
- Interestingly, my Scott technical service manual mentions in passing that special installations of the
AW23 in Mortuaries with a record player could have a special 2 tube booster added to the amp
(which already had 4-2A3's) and used an 18" Jensen.

Yes, the WLW had one as well as the 500 series Capeharts.
