A friend of mine has an EM34 eye tube and thinks that a Russian 6E5C would be able to work. The 6E5C has an Octal base with pins 1 and 4 omitted. He tells me that the EM34 is also an octal base.. Any information will be of help.. Thanks,,,, Dan

Yes, but you do have to make a minor wiring change.

I don't know that Russian tube at all, but the EM34 is a dual range indicator. It has a section top and bottom with different sensitivity. Basically the idea is the more sensitive one is for coarse tuning and the less sensitive one is for fine tuning a station. I dont know if others have that, but you may lose that function if you're worried about it. Considering how hard and expensive a good EM34 is to get though, I expect most don't really care. I've got a bum one myself that I've been meaning to replace with something whenever I get around to it.
