Forum rules

The following requirements must be followed when advertising personal antique radio / TV / audio / phono items (such as discussed in the forums here) for sale in the classifieds forum::

  • Titles must START with : FS (for sale) or WTB (want to buy) or Trade or Free at the beginning of the title..
  • FS posts must have an "asking" price and offers may be sent by PM. Are you parting something out? ... price each major part (not things like screws and nuts)
  • There must be a location somewhere in the ad or the members profile (City & State or Zip Code are the minimum requirement).
  • Ads are limited to two per day, and may not be bumped sooner than 7 days after the last post to the thread.
  • No outside sales links are allowed other than to pictures of actual items being sold. No links allowed to eBay, Craigslist etc.
  • This is NOT a discussion forum. If you're not buying or supplying or suggesting a relevant solution, don't post - send a Private Message. Comments on pricing will be deleted.
  • First to post to an item for sale stating "I WILL TAKE IT" it is first in line. Subsequent claims will be followed in the order they are posted. Claims to "Take it" can be conditional on unknowns such as shipping costs.
  • Any "PM sent" posts without posting a reason for the PM will be deleted as they are meaningless to anyone else reading the thread.
  • Once a deal is made, edit the title to say so and the thread will be locked

If your thread or post disappears - read the rules again - no warnings or explanations will be given when threads or posts are deleted.

Okay, this may be a lot to ask for. I'm not sure. It may cost a small fortune, I sure hope not, but this is my first Zenith console and I want to do it right. I need 5 1938 (I'm not sure if they're interchangeable or not) Zenith shoulder style tubes. They NEED to test strong. I want to eliminate any tube doubt.
The radio came with substitutes that are far from acceptable, which is a bummer, but it happens.

Here's my list:

6A8G (This one has a grid cap)

6K7G (This one has a grid cap) -- FOUND

6H6G -- FOUND

6F5G (This one has a grid cap) FOUND

6F6G -- FOUND

Also, a quote on exact shipping to 12167 would be great.

THANK YOU.

While you are learning... there are no 'tube years'. :) The only things that matter are brand, plant and getting whatever style is correct - globe or ST.

I know, I just noticed some shouldered Zenith tubes have yellow writing on the base, some have no color, just an engraving, maybe the paint just wore off? Just making sure. I need 5 1938 Zenith 6S254 tubes

in 1936-1938 the Zenith radios came with etched base tall (ST or "G" type ) octal tubes, beginning in 1939 they used the yellow printing. They have a narrower base than the metal or GT types which were used by other makers. Philco also used the tall G types at that time and those are the only types that will pass thru the shield flange.

Tubes don't have to be NOS or test strong to function properly is radios. I found the 6H6 ST the hardest to find.
Yellow or etch base, take what you can get..

I wonder if that is because the 6H6 (metal) was such an improvement that the STs were always replaced at any service or tune up?

Found two of em. 6H6G and 6K7G. Thanks Barry. I still need the rest, shoulder style engraved base please. Deco brought to my attention that the 6F5G has a grid cap, I don't see a grid wire on my chassis .

Tom -- That's a really good deal! I'm gonna try and hold out for the etched base ones. Thank you though.

I have a list of date codes for Zenith tubes of the late 1930s packed away, if you are trying to find the correct year and quarter/month for tubes produced.

Here ya go, etched along with some spares. The chassis works with any brand.
