Slow news day? I don't know, but this was on the front page of today's paper, above the fold, with the story on B-1: http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20 ... /120529822This makes TWO vinyl record stores in the area, that I know of. The other one is located in Arcadia, in the historic Opera House. It's an antique mall, but the proprietor has a huge record collection and is now selling them there. He has music playing through the store, from -- you guessed it -- LP's. I also shouldn't discount Banana's Records in St. Petersburg, which is a HUGE outfit with around 2 million records. They used to have two locations, but now only one -- but it's in two buildings. I'm going to Venice tomorrow; I'll have to check out this place myself.

Would be fun to go to a vinyl record store, but what can I imagine is alot of old stock of "closeout bin" stuff and the new limited issue pressings for big money. Or secondhand stuff, hopefully graded and the damaged goods culled from the lots. More power to them, but I still see the future of the businesses selling vinyl records as being rather cloudy, at best. The recession pretty much finished off any businesses with that idea around here, some time ago. A niche business in 2012.

A friend who runs a recorded music store tells me that his sales of vinyl are on the increase as well.

There is a local one 15 miles from where I live.... I have the store on my facebook and when he announces something like 25 cents for 1 12 inch single is when I come in.

Each week at the auction crates of LP's show up. 100 LP's per crate. 1000's of them. Best they sell for is approx. $0.10 each. LP's cut in Japan sell well.

The thrifts around here usually have plenty on hand............... though the large majority have been thoroughly mistreated. A record stored outside the inner sleeve - or a missing sleeve - is a bad omen. Pop records of the era often reveal the teenaged-mentality of those who once owned them. I'm seeing more and more "Jim Nabors", "Boxcar Willie" and Christmas albums as the surplus depletes........ Still, at only $0.49 a pop - they are well worth sorting through......

Hum. I just gained 150 plus records from the curb in the past week.I hope they stop CD's and go back to vinyl. I wouldn't mind paying $15 for a album.CD's were always a ripoff on price.

At 28 yrs old, I've always had records mainly because they were cheap and I've always liked older music. I never really got into CDs because I have always thought they cost way too much for what you got and get damaged too easily. It kinda sucks (for me) that records are making a comeback because the prices have gone up and good records are just about nonexistent at thrift stores anymore. Unless you happen to like Barbara Streisand, Sing a Long with Mitch Miller, Christmas music, gospel, or generic instrumentals.

Seems that physical storage of media is a thing that will soon be a thing of the past http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/31/techn ... .html?_r=1Charlotte No mention made of how ISPs would love to "meter" downloads, leaving the old unlimited model behind, and charging overages to those who stray outside of whatever they see as "normal". Fact is, companies that supply both cable and broadband access hate that NetFlix, Amazon, etc. can use their pipes to provide an alternative to the ISP's lowest-common-denominator cable offerings. We'll see how effective The Cloud is, when broadband data transfer is metered like cell phone plans. Meanwhile, I'm holding onto my 7TB of lossless audio & HD movies.
